taskr vs. Screeni

Screeni runs your kid's screen day: schedules for school days, weekends and holidays, with chores that earn extra minutes. taskr only cares about chores. If one misses its deadline, the apps you picked lock until you approve a photo.

The short version

Screeni, by Luis Carlos Garza Cisneros, is a schedule-first screen time app. You set rules by day type, and it detects national holidays in the US, Mexico and Brazil on its own. Chores add minutes, with optional photo proof, and apps are blocked at the system level when time runs out. It has a real free tier, and it's built on the same Apple framework as taskr. taskr has no schedules. It adds one thing to whatever screen time rules you already have.

  • Pick Screeni if your main goal is structure around when your kid is on screens, you want a free tier, or you want a co-parent managing it with you.
  • Pick taskr if your main goal is getting chores done on time, and you want a photo before anything unlocks.

Where Screeni is the better pick

Screen time structure. If your question is when your kid can use their phone, Screeni answers it better than taskr, which doesn't try. Its day-type schedules, rest breaks and automatic holiday handling are thoughtful, and its live view of each child's status is useful for a parent.

Getting started. A free tier with one child and three tasks lets you try the whole idea without paying, and Pro is listed below taskr Pro. It also lets you invite a co-parent to manage things with you.

Managing the clock vs. managing the chore

A schedule answers one question: is this a time when screens are allowed? It doesn't know whether the dog got walked. Screeni bridges that with chores that earn minutes, but a kid who's still inside their allowed window can leave the chore for later without anything happening.

taskr answers a different question: was this job done by the time you said? A chore that's late locks apps even if your kid has time left on every other rule. Used together with Apple's Screen Time, it covers the part schedules can't see. Pick by which fight you're actually having.

taskr vs. Screeni FAQ

Is Screeni free?

Yes, there's a free tier covering 1 child, 3 tasks and 2 breaks, with full screen time control included. As of November 2026, Pro is listed at $4.99 and $39.99, and adds unlimited children, tasks and breaks, smart schedules, vacation mode, widgets and Live Activity.

Does Screeni need a child Apple ID?

Its listing says kids join with a 6-digit code and no Apple ID is required. taskr also uses a family code, but your kid has to be a child member of your Apple family so iOS can stop them from removing it.

What iOS does Screeni need?

As of November 2026, iOS 18 or later. taskr's Screen Time features need iOS 16 or later.

What is a good alternative to Screeni?

ScreenTreat is close if you want tasks plus limits and bedtime. taskr is the alternative if chores are the real problem, not schedules.

What is the difference between taskr and Screeni?

Screeni manages when screens are allowed, and chores add minutes. taskr has no schedules: a chore that misses its due time locks the apps you picked until you approve a photo.
